CEDO E-Newsletter: June 2011 - Summer is here!
Fear of travel along with the persistent sluggish economy have contributed towards the cancellation of our English language session of CEDO's annual Wet Feet Ocean Camp. We send our sincere apologies to those families and campers who had hoped to attend this year's camp, and we are hopeful to hold English Language Wet Feet Camp in the summer of 2012. It isn't too late to sign up for "Campamento Pies Mojados," the Spanish language session of CEDO's Wet Feet Ocean Camp, scheduled for July 11 - 15. Click here (then scroll down to the Registration forms) to sign up today! Or call CEDO at 520-320-5473.

commercial fishers MUST comply with new rules about environmental impact
statements. CEDO's contract with small-scale fishers is unique in
Mexico and the US, and may be unique in the world, as it brings together an environmental organization and businesses to find sustainable ways to use the ecosystem. Three primary processes needed for the impact study
include: On-Board Monitoring, Fishermen Education and Training, and
Social Participation and Communication. When all stakeholders are
involved, the chance for long-term, systemic improvements on
environmental impact increases. Read more about it here. Environmental Contest Awards Event On June 11, teams of students and interested community members gathered to celebrate the learning, analysis and recommendations of the groups participating in the 17th Annual Environmental Contest. With the theme of "Fishing for the Future," local fishermen, seafood merchants and restauranteurs joined families and friends to honor the work of over 100 students. Read more here. Staff Profile - Rene David Loaiza Villanueva IBAERA Fisheries Researcher, Rene David Loaiza, began working for CEDO in 2006 as a fisheries assistant. Currently, his duties span several of CEDO's on-going fisheries projects, such as helping to draft management plans being developed throughout the protected waters of the Northern Gulf of California, researching the environmental impact of commercial catch in these waters, and overseeing the use of CEDO's vessel, the Polaris. A husband and father of three, Rene enjoys the diversity of his duties and the challenges of working for a non-profit organization that strives to keep the Sea of Cortez a viable, healthy, sustainable ecosystem. SPONSOR A CHILD - Summer Camp at CEDO CEDO seeks sponsors for children who cannot afford the fees required for Wet Feet Ocean Camps this summer. Become a CEDO Member! If you have not made a 2011 donation, PLEASE SEND YOUR GIFT TODAY! Give today and support CEDO's research, conservation and education activities in the Upper Gulf of California. More than ever, we need your support. US visitors are not traveling to Rocky Point in the numbers they once did, so our eco-tourism and classroom field trip revenues are lower than anticipated. We need YOUR help NOW to help us meet our goals this year! ----------------------------------------
