Mario
accepted the position of MIA Biological Monitor as a part of the CEDO contract
to write environmental impact statements for fishermen harvesting within
Reserve waters of the Northern Gulf of California. With a background in
sustainable resource management and biology, he is well qualified to help
gather the biological and social data needed for these documents as well as to
assist fishers and community members to develop systems that will maintain
habitat health and strengthen sustainable fishing practices. Read more

Flat-Tailed Horned Lizards Need
Habitat Protection
The flat-tailed horned lizard, affectionately known as a
"horny toad," has lived in the Northern Gulf of California region for
thousands of years. Documented in the fossil record as well as in
images found on the pottery and petroglyphs of the indigenous people of Mexico
and the US, the 14 known species of horned lizards are being crowded by human
encroachment of their habitat. US Fish & Wildlife has removed the
flat-tailed lizard from its list of threatened species, causing controversy and
law suits from several conservation groups. Read more about horned lizards here.

Challenge Grant Continues!!
The David and Lucile Packard Foundation will match all gifts
to CEDO dollar for dollar, up to $30,000 from now until the end of October. If

and education activities in the Upper Gulf of California. To date, we have raised about 1/3 of the match. We need YOUR HELP to
