| Conducting Research at CEDO |
|
Since our founding, CEDO has been a prime destination for visiting researchers. Located near a variety of ecosystems - rocky intertidal, estuaries, rocky reefs, islands, and the Sonoran Desert - CEDO is the perfect place to base studies conducted in the region. In addition to our own research projects, CEDO has hosted researchers that have investigated areas as diverse as California Sea Lion ecology, larval dispersal of bivalves, spatial distribution of wetland invertebrates, dinoflagellate interaction, analysis of crater deposits in Pinacate, and the extent of prehistoric middens in the area. CEDO is dedicated to sharing with the public and visiting students the most up-to-date knowledge about the Northern Gulf of California. Your research efforts conducted in the area are vital to this goal. As such, CEDO respectfully requests that visiting researchers send us updates on an annual basis of research and publications, including a copy of any published articles resulting from your research here to include in our library. The information acquired in these studies is helpful to increasing our knowledge about the area and has contributed significantly to our conservation efforts.
Researcher Click here for CEDO's Research Registration Form. A special permit is required by Mexican law for the collection of any organism. In addition, it is necessary to have a permit for doing research in Mexico. SEMARNAT, the Secretariat of the Environment and Natural Resources, receives permit requests for studies and/or collection of all terrestrial organisms, as well as non-commercial intertidal organisms. CONAPESCA, the Secretariat of Fisheries, is the government agency which handles permit requests for studies and/or collection of fishes, marine mammals, and other commercial species. CEDO recommends that all researchers apply for the appropriate permits at least 6 months prior to the time you want to initiate the research.
