At the ceremony the government handed out awards to a researcher, local government, private business and a non-governmental organization to recognize the significant contribution that each has made to the conservation of natural resources in Mexico. CEDO was recipient of the 2007 award for Non-Governmental organizations. To celebrate National Conservation Day, the 27th of November, 2006, CEDO, together with the Pinacate Biosphere Reserve and Ministry of Culture of Puerto Peñasco, organized a Conservation Parade through the streets of Puerto Peñasco. The parade concluded with a celebration in the Malecon, in which educational groups and clubs presented plays, folkloric dances, and a fashion show featuring clothes made from recycled materials and more. Environmental Movie Night and Video LibraryWe show free monthly movies and documentaries in Spanish to the general public, to promote understanding and appreciation of nature. Our movie nights, held on the first Thursday of every month, draw an audience of families and kids from Puerto Peñasco. When the movie is over we highlight and discuss important themes on relevant environmental issues. Educational materials and popcorn are also available. CEDO also maintains a video library as a resource for interested teachers. With access to all of our films, teachers can explore new topics in their classrooms, or develop students’ knowledge more deeply in a particular topic.
