Sustainable Tourism Assistant

Project Description:
The Sustainable Tourism Assistant will support in developing the project NaturArte, a network of conservation and ecotourism in the wetlands of the Northern Gulf of California. The overall project objective is to increase the economic dependence on key ecosystems community groups to achieve their long-term conservation. The project integrate training, marketing, communication, local economic development and environmental monitoring as success components for environmental conservation. The work area includes the coastal area in the Biosphere Reserve Upper Gulf of California and Colorado River Delta and surroundings, in the municipalities of San Luis Río Colorado, Caborca and Puerto Penasco ("Rocky Point").
Position's Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the implementation of activities and resources of service to tourists and ecotourism in CEDO and support their implementation
- Support the creation and administration of NaturArte
- Implement and improve the business plan of NaturArte
- Promote the brand "Corredor Ecoturístico NaturArte"
- Coordinate the development and implementation of marketing strategy (including brochures, websites, etc.).
- Train and/or coordinate training to community groups in ecotourism planning, environmental interpretation, English, etc.
- Counsel community groups in creating and implementing business plans and in developing a enterprise vision
- Design and evaluate quantitative and qualitative indicators of success of ecotourism businesses
- Establish and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders (government, tourism, community groups)
- Promote conservation actions by local tourism development
- Promote Puerto Penasco's (Rocky Point's) vision as sustainable tourism destination
- Support in conducting tours
- Monitor the Ecotourism intern
- Support coastal conservation coordination and the direction of CEDO to achieve institutional goals
Requirements:
- Degree completed (Tourism, Management, Marketing, Communication, Biology or related). Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in both natural sciences and in administration
- Minimum one year of experience in sustainable tourism, nature tourism or ecotourism
- Experience working for community training, communication, marketing and/or small business management
- Valid driver's license (minimum one year experience)
- Mastery of spoken and written Spanish and English
- Willingness to reside in Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point), Sonora, Mexico
- Unspecified gender
Duration: One year with possibility of extension.
