Today CEDO is working to reduce the potential damaging impacts of development on the region’s coastal habitats. Marinas have been planned that could potentially destroy all the region’s estuaries - essential habitats and nursery grounds for many species. Through CEDO’s diligent work most of the region’s estuaries remain intact. The NaturArte ecotourism corridor is one of the ways you can work with us to reward small local businesses, such as oyster farmers, who have little impact on the estuaries and help maintain these as healthy ecosystems. CEDO’s marine program promotes sustainable fishing practices and conservation of essential marine habitats. We work directly with fishermen to monitor their fisheries, understand the impacts of fishing, promote management, and measure the effectiveness of these actions. As good management takes hold we will help make connections to sustainable markets.
As CEDO celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2010, we invite you to join us on this road to sustainability, to ensure a healthy future for the community, the environment, and for CEDO.
