CEDO, the Intercultural Center for the Study of Deserts and Oceans, offers opportunities for recent graduates and professionals to participate in CEDO's ecotourism program via a sustainable tourism internship. This new internship offers an opportunity for nature lovers to introduce the wonders of the Gulf of California and surrounding Sonoran Desert to Mexican and American visitors by participating in, and supporting, CEDO's NaturArte Ecotourism Corridor project. Working with community businesses, within protected and beautiful areas, and sharing conservation stories and deep natural history knowledge all combine to form this unique opportunity.

In addition to the wonders of being in the field, you will help CEDO achieve its conservation objectives and produce revenues that will help support CEDO's environmental education, coastal conservation and sustainable fisheries programs. (CEDO was named Mexico's number one conservation organization for 2007 by the Mexican Government and received Mexico's National Award for Environmental Education in 2009).

Interns will be engaged in full-time support of CEDO's sustainable tourism projects during their stay. Flexibility in working hours is required as the intern schedule may vary tremendously from week to week.

The main responsibilities of the intern will be to:
- organize and conduct eco-adventures to local wetlands, rocky intertidal zones, and desert and island habitats such as the Pinacate Biosphere Reserve and Isla San Jorge Island
- promote and sell eco-adventures on site

Other duties include:
- assist in implementing the NaturArte ecotourism marketing plan (which includes working with hotels, travel agencies, and homeowner groups) to increase tourism visitation
promote eco-adventures off site
- give natural history talks and other lectures
- attend to CEDO visitors in general, promote donations, memberships and support for conservation and education programs

Accommodations
Interns will be provided with housing at the CEDO field station (100 meters from the beach) located in the Las Conchas housing development just east of Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, Mexico. Room, kitchen and bathroom are shared with other residents. No pets allowed.  Additional residency guidelines will be given when application is accepted.

Interns will receive a monthly stipend but are responsible for providing their own transportation and food.

How to Apply
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and have a college degree in biology, environmental sciences, tourism, marketing or related fields. They must have a deep interest in and curiosity about nature, and enjoy being in the field. Above all, the applicant should enjoy interacting with the public both informally, and through formal presentations and tours. Fluency in English is required; fluency in Spanish as well is preferred.

The estimated starting date is January 2010. Application materials should be sent in by November 1, 2009.
