CEDO's 2010 Wet Feet Ocean Camp is scheduled for June 24-28 in English and July 12-16 in Spanish. Our 2009 camp was a wonderful time - read below to learn about our camper's experiences. Also, general information on the 2010 camp, including activities and prices, is listed below, too. *** To view captions for the photos, just move your cursor over them. The first six photos below can be enlarged by clicking on them. Our 2009 camp was a huge success! Seventeen campers joined us at the CEDO field station for five days of adventure and learning. This year's camp was especially unique, as eight Americans were joined by nine students from a local Puerto Peñasco, Sonora school, making the camp an intercultural exchange in addition to an exploration of the ecology of the Northern Gulf. This contributed greatly to the flow and atmosphere of the camp, especially adding an extra level of intensity while students discussed the camp's theme, the conservation of the vaquita, as the issue is unique to Mexico. The vaquita is a marine porpoise endemic to Mexico and the Northern Gulf of California, and the world’s most endangered marine mammal.
Campers will explore the marine biology of the Upper Gulf of California through both field study and hands-on activities. Uncovering brittle stars, nudibranchs, and octopi in the intertidal zone, dancing for shrimp in the estuary, and discovering the secrets of different marine organisms that live in this biologically rich area are only a few of the activities in which the campers will participate.
![]() Counselors with experience in marine biology and desert ecology, and trained in First Aid and CPR, will staff the camp. All food and beverages (including purified water) will be provided for campers on site. Campers will have the opportunity to visit downtown Puerto Peñasco and should bring some spending money, but will spend the majority of their time in the field, or at CEDO. Let's get our feet wet!
